HelpOthers.orgEach week I am going to present you with a website that I consider to be useful. It might be about health & fitness, parenthood, technology, politics, recipes, funny stuff, or whatever, just as long as I consider it useful and something you should know about.

I believe that one of the ways to finding happiness in life is through giving. Whether it be allowing someone in front of you in traffic, donating used clothes, going around the world to do missionary work, serving our country, or visiting lonely folks in nursery homes, it’s all about doing something to help someone other than yourself (and yet, that does help you).

I used to separate myself from the “givers” in society because I thought they were all different from me. They had a “gift” that allowed them to be self-less and attend to those in need. While there certainly are people that are gifted givers, that is not a requirement. A willing heart is all it takes. That sounds so cheesy but I have found it to be very true and the Useful Website of the Week helps make giving even easier.

The Useful Website of the Week is www.helpothers.org. The site contains a plethora of “kindness ideas”, big and small, on how to help people through random acts of kindness. The thing I love about the site is that they have what are called Smile Cards. They are basically a game of random act of kindness tag. Once you’ve been hit and received a smile card, you help someone with your act of kindness and pass the smile card on to them. You can see how it would keep going. The cool thing is you can actually print the smile cards out yourself at home and they have several different versions to choose from. I think this site is awesome and I’ve already got my smile cards printed up! I hope you find this site useful!

I checked it out and you are right about it being useful–useful in an inspiring way, and there is no way that that is cheesy. Reading just a few of the positive examples there motivates me to give in unique ways as I pass it along to others. Thanks for the link.
