Dumb Little ManWelcome to this week’s installment of the Useful Website of the Week!  This week I submit to you a fun little website that is devoted to giving us tips to improve our lives with a common sense approach.  The website, Dumb Little Man, states that they are here to provide tips that will save us money, increase our productivity, or simply keep us sane.

I have found many posts on Dumb Little Man to be very practical and useful.  Here are some of my favorites that make me laugh and yet still provide some real insight.

I often refer to the post, 10 Commandments for Dropping 10 Pounds & 10 Years, for a much needed reminder on how simple it actually is to be healthy.  I tend to complicate health and weight loss, so it’s nice to have a post like this to get a reality check.

Another post I like is Open Your Eyes to Blind Giving.  How often do I need to be reminded that giving of myself to someone else is how to find true happiness?  It doesn’t take much to improve someone else’s day and this post gives suggestions that would do just that.

And I love Things I Wish I Knew.  This is a hodge podge of different ideas, lessons, values that really resonated with me.  Here are a few:

No one will believe in you more than you do. If you want to start a business or if you have some wild dream, your wife, boyfriend or friends will never have as much confidence as you. Listen to their concerns and strongly consider them, but don’t let popular opinion be the sole factor in your conclusion. If you believe in it, do it.

Nothing is rigged. I am sick and tired of hearing how Johnny got lucky. If Johnny won the lottery, I’d agree but if Johnny had no college education, started a business, worked 80 hours each week for 10 years, and sold his business for $15 Million, he earned it. I hate to say this but luck is for losers. Create your future and dedicate yourself to it.

Having a kid will change your life. We all hear this but I’d bet you $100 that you can’t find someone to dispute it. No matter how you plan and no matter how much you budget, having a child will change everything that you know. Even at 27, I was not ready to really handle fatherhood and I can honestly say that it took me 12 months to really adjust. Don’t play with fire unless you are ready to completely change your life…it’s not a dog.

So this is definitely not a traditional self-help type of website!  And I love that about it.  Nothing more invigorating than advice coming from people’s life experiences and their own hind-sight.  I hope you have fun with this one!

Thanks for the link to this website. You are good at finding the interesting and useful ones! In Open your eyes to Blind Giving, I liked the idea on telling an older woman she is beautiful. As we gain wisdom, we look like it, and that doesn’t attract people to us anymore to hear our wisdom.
