Filed Under (Challenges, Weight Loss) by Julie on 05-31-2008

GRRRRRR!!!Hubby and I are both very competitive people.  We love to challenge each other and we are both so stubborn!  So it’s only fitting that today while waiting in line for gas (for cheap gas!) we came up with a challenge for each other.

You see, hubby has been riding the fence for awhile now about losing weight.  I think he feels like there is never a right time to start and it’s very hard for him to fit exercise into his schedule with work and family time.  I understand but I would much rather him cut out a little family time or leisure time to get healthy… it’s worth it in the long run, right?

So, I’ve been hoping that my efforts might eventually rub off on him and perhaps motivate him to make a change.  Well, it’s not so much my efforts that have gotten him going as it is the idea of a competition with a reward!

That’s right, we are making a bet.  Whoever loses the most weight from June 1st to July 1st will win the bet!  This is a pound for pound bet, not percentages (which favors him of course).  What are the stakes?  If I win, hubby has to do the dishes EVERY NIGHT for the ENTIRE month of July!!!  (I am just giggling inside at the thought of that!)  But if hubby wins, I will have to mow the yard (including the weedeating) for the entire month of July (basically 4 weekends).

As you can imagine, I am not at all interested in yard work.  Not my thing.  But the thought of not doing dishes for a month is SO motivating!  And hubby is equally motivated to have a month off from mowing (especially the month of July!).  So we are both going to be working our butts off to win this thing!

So in the spirit of friendly competition, I’d like to challenge you this month as well!  Find a partner and challenge each other to a month of weight loss to see who gets to wear the victory crown!  I don’t know about you but we love having bragging rights around here.  That can go a long way towards motivation! :)

Bring-it-on!

That sounds like a great challenge! Go for it! Make him do those dishes.

ooh girl, I KNOW you will win this one because you’ve got the heads up on the fitness thing although guys DO lose weight faster with the stupid testosterone crap! NOT FAIR…ok. I’m doing a six week thing that I’m gonna write about soon.

p.s. Thanks for the kind words, it was pretty scary. Hope Aly’s boo-boo will get better too. BTW how old is Aly? sorry if I missed it on the other posts…I haven’t caught up with everything. Noticed my name on the roll, and all i said was HELLS YEA!

Good luck! My friends have a ping pong table and they play ping to see who will do the dishes that night. It’s awesome! Keep us posted!

Good luck! My girlfriend and I are also challenging each other, although not through a bet. I might consider using a bet as motivation if we both plateau. So far so good for both of us.

BTW, who did your header graphic?

Thanks for the support! I will make sure and give updates throughout the month. So far, the competition is fierce! We are watching every bite of food each other eats, every step of exercise taken, and so far, no sabotage has come into play but I’m keeping my eyes open!

Andrew - Thanks! I’ll be working hard to make that happen!

Jojo - Aly is 19 months. It’s going by so fast! How old is your little one?

C - Thanks! :)

Amanda - Love the ping pong idea! I better not mention it to hubby… we’d have a ping pong table in our garage by the end of the night, hehe.

FB - That’s awesome that and your girlfriend challenge each other! I think it’s very motivating. Also, I left you a comment on your blog about the header. Thanks!
